The importance of a dream home in the lives of busy business owners

If you are a business owner or a busy, successful professional, your home means so much more than a place to relax and spend time with friends and family

Home.

There are so many definition and interpretation of this short word. The meaning of home actually keeps changing as we grow up, as well.

It means different things for children, when we are teenagers, when we half moved out to university, when we first rent our home or when we buy our first ever home. But then it has a very different meaning - or should I say feeling - to it when we are finally got to a stage in life to have the means to buy - or more likely create - our dream home.

Even though we all have so different definitions of a dream home when we run businesses or are responsible for others' businesses, we share some special meaning of a home that connect us.

So let's have a look at these and check, if you have them sorted!

1. The location of your dream home

At this point in your life you are looking for locations with a different eye. Apart from the most common requirements - good schools, nice neighbourhood, least commuting, etc - you will pay attention to specific post codes as this comes up in social and professional networking almost all the time.

Now, of course, fancy post codes not only come with a price but limit your options, as well. However, at this point, it is very wise to look for less desirable (or completely undesirable looking) properties in the favoured area and plan for a complete remodel. You will be able to get hold of a well located property at a lower price point and you will have all the potential to transform it into your dream home with the least compromise.

Sounds like a lot of work? Well, it is. Get in touch, and let me help you figure out how it is best to do this.

2. The space

People need space.

Actually, we, humans, need space. Just how we developed through evolution. We are trying to adapt to modern day living in crowded cities and can put up with restricted foot print and the lack of natural light for a while but it certainly effects our mental health, and we just cannot grow. Literally and figuratively.

You need to feel an abundance of space to be able to feel abundant in your life, see personal and professional opportunities. Have you ever experienced working on your laptop in a hotel room compared to a doing it in a spacious co-working space or even a public space like a bar? Where were you more inspired? Where did you feel more comfortable?

Your doesn't need to huge to have space, it just needs to be well designed to give you an illusion of more space than you actually have.

If you have a spare bedroom, turn that into your home office space with the desk facing the windows or the middle of the room. Try to avoid having an office corner in your living room or bedroom.

This will also give you the benefit of separating your work and personal life, as well as leaves more space for playing, entertaining and relaxing in other areas of your home.

3. The vibe of your dream home

As a designer - or even when I was looking for our homes - I have seen so many homes with amazing, but unfulfilled potential.

Properties priced over a million pounds have totally neglected interiors without any style and personality. It always makes me wonder - why? It is surely not a matter of money at this price point.

Also, let me tell you a secret. A well designed home don't necessary cost more than a badly designed one. But just think about how much happiness can come from a well designed home!

You doubt it? Give it a try! Just start with one room and see the difference it makes to your life!

Apart from having all the basic necessities, a nice kitchen, somewhere to sit and chill, watch TV and sleep, perhaps a little garden, the home that truly reflects your personality and lifestyle have a huge impact on your confidence and wellbeing. And would you not want that in your life and in your business?

4. The source of joy

Having a dream home instantly gives a sense of accomplishment.

It is a huge milestone in everyone’s life and it is a point of pride.

Walking around your newly bought property the first time gives you joy even when it is in need of a complete refurbishment (or just a thorough cleaning), doesn't it!

What gives you joy in life?

When you think about it, are any of these things can be repeated every day? I am a member of an all women entrepreneur group in which we try to do something that gives us joy every single day. When I first had to come up with one, I couldn't. I am just generally happy and content in my life right now so I didn't need the feel for a specific one. So then, after actively thinking about it, I said I was going to sort out my wardrobe - LOL! But then I thought I don't have hours to that without planning ahead :D

There is a difference in between having a comfortable home and having a dream home. Your home needs to fill you with joy EVERY DAY to feel happy and content and go conquer the world when you aren't at home. The joy of a dream home is repeating itself everyday without additional time and effort and so this is a kind of joy that can be maintained easily.

Do you have a spot in your home that you just cannot wait to spend time in at the end of a stressful day or first thing in the morning? If you didn't, you certainly need one!

The home as a foundation of your success

I am sure you have known that your physical and mental health is key to being a successful business owner, but I hope I could make some points about how your home can support this, too.

Our home is such an important part of our lives and it needs to be considered that way. Sometimes we don't realise what we miss until we finally have it. If you suspect that you may be able to improve your love for your home - even if you feel it is "pretty good, thanks" - give it a try! Give a style refresh to a corner of your living area or your bedroom and feel the difference instantly.

I guarantee you will be happier and more successful!

Relax and plan ahead,

Until later, Agi
